• HOW DOES IT WORK?

    The program is designed in a way that takes advantages from both theoretical and practical methods of learning. The model immerses the candidates in a hands-on environment where knowledge is gained not only through professor-led seminars but also interactive and challenging experiences. Coaches and professors will inspire candidates to complement their scientific and technical information with empirical knowledge and a socially responsibility approach.

     

    In this context, the candidates will be able to discover, analyze and apply relevant knowledge outside of a University classroom in an environment designed to nurture the learning process and develop the necessary soft skills that are vital for the profile of tomorrow’s leading entrepreneurs.

    Upon acceptance to the program, the candidates will send their coaches an executive summary of their business plan to be evaluated. After receiving feedback, they shall make the necessary changes in order to start working on the final idea as soon as they arrive to Shanghai.

    fOLLOW uP

    The candidates who successfully complete the program will become fellow LEAPERS and join an international community of young successful entrepreneurs that aren’t limited by their circumstances but instead profit from them to create ideas with value.

     

    Upon presenting their final pitches at the closing ceremony, they will be able to book private meetings with representatives from trading companies focusing in similar industries and geographical regions so they can give a proper follow-up to the projects they consider are ready for the next step.

    Program introduction - 4 class hours

    This seminar is the first look of the candidates into the work that the program entails; they will share expectations and more importantly, set the groundwork for their startups growth. They will understand the methodology and process of the program so they can best profit from the content.

    Chinese Economy & Society - 4 class hours

    This is an integrative seminar that aims to synthesize information in history, economics and social customs that affect to current state of business in China. The candidates will learn about business etiquette rules and practices in Chinese life; they will understand the rise of China as one of the world’s economic leaders and the possible future outcome of its fast-paced growth.

    Chinese Language - 4 class hours

    In this crash-course seminar, the candidates will be immersed in the fascinating Chinese language. Nearly 16% of the world’s population speaks some sort of Chinese as their first language; the candidates will learn to familiarize themselves with basic Mandarin expressions and words in order to better understand the environment in which they will work during the program.

    Design Thinking - 4 class hours

    This seminar focuses on the design thinking methodology that addresses complex problem solving as a way for finding solutions. It is not problem-focused but solution-focused and action oriented towards creating a preferred future.

    Social entrepreneurship - 4 class hours

    The seminar invites the candidates to use the different techniques as entrepreneurs to develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural and/or environmental issues, no matter the size, aim or beliefs of an organization.

    Seminar at Chamber of Commerce - 2 Class hours

    This seminar will be held at the Chamber of Commerce where the candidates will learn about strategies for promotion of international trade, attraction of foreign investment and internationalization of companies. The candidates will be able to detect business opportunities based on trends and business expectations.

    Sourcing, Auditing & Regulations - 4 class hours

    This seminar addresses the procurement practices aimed at finding, evaluating and engaging suppliers for acquiring goods and services, outsourcing the process of contracting a business function and learn how to conduct a thorough inspection of the company’s paperwork and practices.

    Lean Start-up - 4 class hours

    The seminar aims at allowing the candidates to discover the methodology for developing business and products by shortening product development cycles, adopting a combination of business-hypothesis-driven experimentation, iterative product releases and validated learning.

    International Business law - 4 class hours

    This seminar will give you an introduction to business law focusing on foreign companies that invest and operate in China. It will address the laws and regulations that the candidates should be aware of as well as the common practices in business.

    International Branding - 4 class hours

    In this seminar, the candidates will learn to analyze and plan the way their brand will be perceived in the market through understanding the importance of developing a good relationship with their target market, the consumer’s experience and perception.

    Social media management - 4 class hours

    This seminar comprises the bases to understand the importance of social media for a startup by allowing them to listen, interact, engage and collaborate with its customers. The candidates will learn techniques that will help them manage outbound and incoming online interactions in a more efficient manner.

    Start-up's finances - 4 class hours

    This seminar focuses on the importance of financial literacy for every entrepreneur; it will provide critical knowledge that will help the candidates use finance as a tool to help manage their companies. They will learn small business accounting, entrepreneurial finance, budgets and projections.

    e-commerce - 4 class hours

    This seminar aims to give an overall assessment of the transaction of buying and selling online through technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, electronic data exchange, amongst others. The candidates will get to know and understand the current scenario in China and the way this technology has changed the way people do business.

    Supply chain & Transportation - 4 class hours

    The seminar explains to the candidates the importance of proper management of the flow of goods and services involving the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-progress inventory, and of finished goods from point or origin to point of consumption.

    funding & Investment - 4 class hours

    This seminar introduces the candidates to the concepts of raising capital for their businesses, understanding exit strategies for their company and their investors. They’ll learn about the initial public offering process and the timing, costs and best business practices involved.

    Q & A With entrepreneurs in Shanghai - 8 class hours

    Every week, the candidates will have a seminar with a respected member of the entrepreneurship scene in Shanghai that will be able to share their experience and guide the candidates through their process of creation. Allowing the candidates to understand not only the different paths to success but the how success means something completely different for every person.

    dESIGN tHINKING wORKSHOP - 3 Class hours

    In this workshop, the candidates will use design thinking to validate their business ideas by focusing on the first two steps of the process: inspiration and ideation. They will understand the problem they’re trying to solve, use diverge-converge techniques, play out the journey and present their final conclusions.     sOURCING tRANING BY A tRADING coMPANY - 2 Class Hours

    This training will be led by experts in a trading company who will share with the candidates the best platforms and techniques to source for their specific products or services.

    yIWU -tHE WORLD'S BIGGEST WHOLE SALE MARKET - 9 Class Hours

    This activity takes the candidates into the world’s biggest wholesale market in Yiwu, a two hour train ride outside of Shanghai, where they will be able to contact suppliers and practice negotiation skills while finding strategic partners that can add value to their businesses.

    aUDITING PARTNERS & sUPPLIERS - 2 Class Hours

    In this workshop, the candidates will conduct the inspections for the companies that they’ve contacted; whether they may be partners or suppliers. They will be able to understand the importance of the companies they work with to have the necessary paperwork and validate their practices are all legal and with the right certification.

    TEAMWORK TRAINING -2 class Hours

    For this training, the candidates will have to go through escape rooms at Mr. X, where they will practice complex problem serving, cognitive flexibility, working with others and leadership skills.

    BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS -3 Class Hours

    In this workshop, the candidates will use the strategic management and lean startup templates for developing and documenting their business model. Candidates will describe their value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances.

    START WITH: WHY? - 3 Class hours

    This workshop aims to give the candidates a first approach into learning how to describe, explain and sell their business model. They will find the motivation behind the business they’ve created and understand the importance of knowing it well in order to sell it to someone else.

    CES asia -8 Class Hours

    This visit will take the candidates to the Consumer Electronics’ Expo in Shanghai, featuring a broad range of industries disrupted and improved by technology such as automotive, transportation, sports, fashion and travel. The show spotlights technology’s critical role in improving productivity and business services.

    sTORY TELLING WORKSHOP -3 Class Hours

    This workshop will train the candidates in the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, often with improvisation, theatric, or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and instilling moral values. Hopefully, the candidates will be able to use it for sharing their business idea with their potential partners, shareholders and customers.

    FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS WORKSHOP -3 Class Hours

    During this workshop, the candidates will begin making forecasts of future revenues and expenses, accounting for internal and historical data and including a prediction of external market factors, developing both short and mid-term projections as well as pessimistic and optimistic ones.

    Online campaign & Adwords -3 Class Hours

    In this workshop, the candidates will become familiar with the different platforms for developing digital campaigns for their own start-ups and create their first real campaign for Facebook and/or Adwords.

    bAOSTEEL vISIT -7 Class Hours

    The visit to Baosteel Group Corp is a great opportunity for the candidates to understand the dimensions of production in China. It’s the fifth largest steel producer in the world employing more than 130,000 employees. The purpose is to get the candidates familiarized with visiting supplying companies in China.

    nEGOTIATION sKILLS -3 class Hours

    The negotiation workshop includes a visit to the Shanghai Fake Market where candidates will be tested on their negotiation skills. If we understand negotiation as a dialogue between parties that intend to reach a beneficial outcome, in this workshop the candidates will understand the importance of good listening skills, emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance.

    eLEVATOR pITCH -3 Class Hours

    This workshop will help the candidates construct a brief, persuasive speech that they can use to spark interest in what their business does, lasting no longer than a short elevator ride of 20 to 30 seconds, hence the name. Candidates will learn to be interesting, memorable and succinct while they explain what makes their business unique.

    sHANGHAI hARBOUR -7 Class Hours

    This is the last visit of the program where the candidates will understand the infrastructure behind their businesses and the elements that make China such an interesting partner for international business.

    fINAL pRESENTATIONS - 4 Class Hours

    On the last day of the program, all companies will have the opportunity to present the culmination of their work through a business presentation in front of their colleagues, coaches, program directors and interested parties. The presentations will be followed by the award and closing ceremony.

    Welcome Dinner

    On their first night, the candidates will get together to kick-off the program with a night of delicious Yunnan food, a Chinese specialty. They will be able to get to know their colleagues and program directors while enjoying an amazing view of the city.

    It’s important for the candidates to understand how important a well-balanced life is in Chinese culture. This activity is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits, it refers to a philosophy of the forces of yin and yang, related to moves and combined with the force of Chinese Kung-Fu; definitely an unforgettable experience for the candidates.

    Untour focuses on how far from a typical tour their food experience is; the candidates will be able to sample dishes from very different Chinese provinces and regions: Xinjiang, Sichuan, Shandong and of course, Shanghai. While they eat, they’ll learn about the history of food in China and its effect on modern life customs and traditions.

    After successfully finishing the program we will host a farewell event with one of the top restaurants in Shanghai with one of the 8 local types of food.
